Framing Your Artwork

Framing your artwork properly can make a big difference in how it looks and how others see it. A good frame not only protects your work but also helps it stand out and feel finished. In the below video, a professional framer, John from Canvas Craft in Templeogue shows us how he frames artwork and  shares useful tips to help you choose the right frame, and get your art ready to display or sell. Whether you're preparing for an exhibition or just want to show your work at its best, these tips will help you feel more confident about framing.

Connecting Artists Centre Framing Best Practices and Tips:

  • Frame Styles: The frame should compliment and enhance your artwork without overpowering it. Consider the colour of the frame in relation to your art piece

  • Neutral colours: such as black or white provide a clean border around yur artwork

  • Ensure proper mounting: Artwork should be mounted securely within the frame to prevent it from moving. Artwork should have secure hardware, to be able to hang the artwork safely on the wall.  A professional framer can do this for you.

  • Keep it simple: A simple frame design tends to work well across different types of artwork. Avoid overly complicated frames that might distract from your art.

  • Framing more then one piece: If you are framing a series of artworks for an exhibition or collection, using the same frames creates a cohesive presentation that ties the pieces together.
