Artist Biography:
What is an Artist Biography for?
An Artist Biography tells people about you as an artist, it is the facts. It gives information about you and your artwork. It also includes a list of shows, exhibitions, or art showcases you have been a part of.
The artist biography helps people learn about you and your art. It should be written in the third person eg. “He”, “She”, “They”.
Below are some questions for your artist biography. This is just a guideline. Remember people are curious about who you are, what inspired your work, and how an artist works.
What should I include in my Artist Biography?
Your name
Where are you from?
Where do you live now?
Do you study art? If so, where? Or are you self-taught?
What or who inspires your artwork?
What mediums, materials, or techniques do you use?
What are you trying to say through your work
What is your style of work
Are you a member of any art groups or organisation’s?
A list of any exhibitions, showcases, or events you have been a part of
Is there anything else you wish to add?
Artist Statement:
What is an Artist Statement?
An Artist Statement explains the ideas or characteristics of your artwork. It gives people a better understanding of what your work is about. You can use it to describe the themes in your art, the story behind it, or why a subject is important to you.
What should I include in my Artist Statement?
Think about these questions:
How? How do you create your artwork? What materials, colors, or techniques do you use?
What? What is your artwork about? What subjects or ideas do you like?
Why? Why do you make this kind of art? What is the main message or feeling you want to share?
What do I most want people to see in my art? - Colour? Material? Subject? An emotion? Texture? Line?
A statement short and clear. But you can write all your ideas down and then make it shorter later.
Should be written in 1st person; “I”, “Our”, “My”

Pick three people that you trust and ask them what words they would use to describe your work?
Write down these words or have them write them down.
