“Paula became an artist because she believes art and music can create positivity, and it exacerbates how you feel.”
— Paula O’Connor, Connecting Artists 2025 Participant
Paula O’Connor is a 27-year-old, self-taught artist based in Naas, County Kildare. At six years old, she started drawing and painting in school. Art was one of her favourite subjects throughout school. She learnt about Vincent Van Gogh and Banksy, and famous artists from all around the world in secondary school.
At age sixteen, she won an art competition for the school library. She entered the competition because she enjoyed creating art in her free time and thought it would be good to get involved to create a drawing for the library. Paula’s neighbours and family encouraged her to enter art competitions and create online art pages because of her talent. She came 1st in the Christmas card competition with KFM radio station and was the winner for four years in a row. After school, she did a mixed media class and an employability skills course, and now works in retail. She enjoys drawing, painting, making cards, and exploring different art styles and songwriting as a hobby.
Her favourite things to draw are animals, nature, and musicians. She uses colouring pencils, pastels, pencils, and charcoal for drawing. Her favourite paints to use are watercolours and acrylic paints, She loves going to see country and folk bands because music gives her inspiration for her art. Her family, friends, and the community inspire and support her to be an artist. Folow her art accounts:
