Artist Bearnard Durnin

“I create my paintings by first sketching my ideas using pencil or pen in my art journal. Then I will choose a sketch from my journal to paint on canvas using acrylic paints. My art is imaginary ideas based on movies, superheroes, and vehicles. I enjoy this type of art because I am very interested in it and it fascinates me. I would like people to be impressed and excited when they see my artwork.”

Bearnard Durnin is an artist from Ardee, Co Louth. He grew up on a dairy farm.  But always knew farming wasn't for him.  Art was his main interest.  Bearnard started drawing dinosaurs, cars, jeeps and superheroes from his memory and imagination at a young age. And as an adult he still enjoys drawing them.

When Bearnard left secondary school he completed a FETAC Level 5 course in Art and Design.  When he finished his art course, he started to attend art classes with a local artist Susan Farrelly.  Susan encouraged him to paint on canvas using his ideas from his art journals.  He uses acrylic paint on canvas.  He still attends art class once a week with Susan.  And still loves sketching in his art journal using pen and pencil.

Bearnard joined The Connecting Artists programme in 2025.  It has been a great opportunity for him to meet other artists and be part of a community where he feels his art will be appreciated and accepted. .
